Don’t understand some of those tricky words and terms your health insurance company uses? Here are some quick definitions and explanations to help you better understand your health insurance and get the most out of your plan.

Formulary – A formulary is a list of covered preferred brand and generic brand drugs provided by your health insurance plan. The formulary is updated regularly and is subject to change. The formulary is also a good source for you and your doctor to determine the best drug for your condition at the lowest out-of-pocket cost to you.

Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) – The Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) is a federal law that guarantees up to 12 weeks of protected job leave for certain employees when they need to take time off work due to various family or medical reasons. These reasons can include a serious illness or disability, having or adopting a child, or caring for another family member.

Full-Time Employee (FTE) – A full-time employee is any employee who works an average of at least 30 hours a week for more than 120 days in a year.
